Our statement of general policy is:

  • to provide adequate control of the health and safety risks arising from our work activities;
  • to consult with our employees on matters affecting their health and safety;
  • to provide and maintain safe plant and equipment;
  • to ensure safe handling and use of substances;
  • to provide information, instruction and supervision for employees;
  • to ensure all employees are competent to do their tasks, and to give them adequate training;
  • to prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill health;
  • to maintain safe and healthy working conditions; and to review and revise this policy as necessary at regular intervals.

 

1.0  Responsibilities

1.1    Overall and final responsibility for health and safety is that of the company.

1.2    Day-to-day responsibility for ensuring this policy is put into practice generally is delegated to Peter Gowman.

1.3    Site specific responsibility will be delegated to the person in charge of that site.

1.4    All employees have to:

1.4.1 Co-operate with supervisors and managers on health and safety matters.

1.4.2 Not interfere with anything provided to safeguard their health and safety.

1.4.3 Take reasonable care of their personal health and safety.

1.4.4 Report all health and safety concerns to the persons named above and/or to the person(s) nominated for the site upon which you are working. 

 

2.0  Risk Assessments

2.1    General risk assessments will be undertaken by the company. The findings of these assessments will be advised to all relevant persons by means of their health and safety induction upon commencing employment with Trueform Limited or prior to undertaking specific tasks where significant risk has been identified.

2.2    For notifiable projects as defined by the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007 (hereafter CDM 2007), where Trueform Limited is the Principal Contractor, site specific risk assessments will be contained within the Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan.  The findings of these assessments will be advised to all relevant personnel during the site safety induction.  In any event a copy of the plan will always be available with, by or near the HSE Health & Safety Law poster for that site.

2.3    Where a project is not notifiable according to CDM 2007 where Trueform is a contractor, but not the Principal Contractor, risk assessments will be carried out by the nominated supervisor for that site, and/or as required by the Principal Contractor. 

2.4    Action required to remove and/or control risks will be authorised by the company, who will also be responsible for ensuring that the action is implemented.

2.5    All line managers, site managers, supervisors and foremen with responsibility for the man management for a work area or task will check that the implemented actions have removed and/or reduced the identified risks. 

2.6    Assessments will be reviewed on a regular basis (not more than three months) or when the work activity changes.  Whichever is soonest.

 

3.0  Consultation with Employees

3.1    Employee representative is Mark Scourfield.

3.2    The employee representative will consult with all relevant persons and any issues, concerns or any matter relating to personal, health safety or welfare will be reported immediately as the issues arise.

3.3    In any event the employee representative will report at all management meetings.

 

4.0 Safe Plant and Equipment

4.1    Tony Martin will be responsible for identifying all plant and equipment needing maintenance.

4.2    The company will be responsible for ensuring that effective maintenance procedures are drawn up.

4.3    All line managers, site managers, supervisors, foremen and licensed/competent persons who are in charge of any plant or equipment will be responsible for identifying whether it has been maintained in accordance with the above procedures.

4.4    Any problems found with plant or equipment should be reported to the relevant line manager immediately.  Such plant or equipment must not be further used without specific authorisation.

4.5    The company will be responsible for ensuring that all new plant and equipment meets the required health and safety standards before it is procured.

 

5.0   Safe Handling and Use of Substances

5.1    The company will be responsible for identifying all substances which require a COSHH assessment.

5.2    Nominated line managers or site managers will be responsible for undertaking COSSH assessments.

5.3    The nominated line managers or site managers will also be responsible that all actions identified in the assessments are implemented.

5.4    The nominated line managers or site managers will also be responsible for ensuring that all relevant persons are informed about the COSHH assessments.

5.5    The company will be responsible for checking that all new substances can be used safely before they are procured.

5.6    COSHH assessments will be reviewed periodically (not more than three months) or when the work activity changes.  Whichever is soonest.

 

6.0  Information Instruction and Supervision

6.1    The Health and Safety Law poster is displayed in the general office of Trueform Limited , Larchlands, Swallowtree, Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire, SA69 9DD.

6.2    On sites subject where Trueform Limited is the Principal Contractor, a Health and safety Law poster will be displayed in the site office.

6.3    Health and Safety leaflets outlining the duties and responsibilities of all employees and other relevant persons are issued either upon commencing employment with Trueform Limited or undertaking a visit to any work location that is controlled by Trueform Limited.

6.4    A copy of the above booklet, titled Employee Health and Safety and Induction Booklet is displayed in the general office of Trueform Limited.  Copies will also be displayed with the Health and Safety Law posters on applicable sites.

6.5    Health and safety advice is available from the company or the person named in 1.2 above.

6.6    Supervision of young/trainee workers will be arranged and monitored by the company.

6.7    The nominated line manager is responsible for ensuring that all employees working at locations controlled by other employers are given relevant health and safety information.

 

7.0  Competency for Tasks and Training

7.1    Induction training will be provided for all new employees by the company or other nominated line manager.

7.2    Site specific training will be provided by the nominated manager for that site.  This will be supplemented by regular ‘tool box talks’.

7.3    Training records are kept at the general office of Trueform Limited, or where necessary at the relevant site office.

7.4    Training will be identified, arranged and monitored by the company.

 

8.0  Accidents First aid and Work Related Ill-Health

8.1    Health surveillance, where deemed necessary will be arranged by the company.  Relevant records will be kept at the general office of Trueform Limited.

8.2    First aid boxes are kept in the general office, all site offices and on each vehicle.

8.3    The appointed first-aider is Jonathon Williams or as indicated at each site office.

8.4    All accidents or incidence of work related ill health is to be recorded in the relevant accidents books.  One accident book is kept at the general office, and one accident book is kept at each site.

8.5    The company is responsible for reporting accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences to the enforcing authority.

 

9.0  Monitoring

9.1    To check our working conditions, and ensure that our safe working practises are being followed, we will undertake bi-annual internal audits.

9.2    The company is responsible for investigating accidents.

9.3    The company is responsible for investigating work-related causes of sickness absences.

9.4    The company is responsible for acting upon investigation findings where it is indicated that there are actions required to prevent a recurrence.

 

10.0  Emergency Procedures Fire and Evacuation

10.1 The company is responsible for ensuring that the fire risk assessment for the general office is undertaken and implemented.

10.2 Site specific risk assessments are the responsibility of the nominated site manager.

10.3 The company or the nominated site manager will ensure that escape routes are checked at the commencement of work and at the end of each day.

10.4 The company or the nominated site manager will ensure that fire extinguishers are regularly checked and maintained, as required by the specialist employed.

10.5  Alarms and emergency evacuation procedures will be tested regularly as required by the risk assessment for that location.

 

11.0  Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007

11.1 Trueform Limited recognises its responsibilities in respect of CDM 2007.

11.2  The company is responsible for ensuring that the company’s responsibilities are in accordance with CDM 2007.

11.3  It is the policy of Trueform Limited that in respect of CDM 2007 to ensure that as a minimum requirement the guidance as provided in The Approved Code of Practice ‘Managing health and safety in construction’ will be followed.
